Challenges of Maintaining Family Health and Natural Immunity on a Budget
Keeping your family healthy on a budget has become increasingly challenging, particularly with the rising costs at the grocery store. Like many of you, I’ve faced the dilemma of choosing between affordable, processed foods and nourishing organic options. My solution? Crafting homemade, nutrient-packed remedies that aid in immunity boosting while also saving money.
I’ve embarked on creating my own potent immune-boosting solutions, alongside essential household items like dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, and cleaning solutions, all formulated from natural ingredients. These DIY creations not only bolster our health but also ensure our home remains clean without the use of harsh chemicals.
For those who have been following my journey, you’re aware of my commitment to enhancing children’s health naturally. My forthcoming guide, The Ultimate Guide to Boosting Your Child’s Immunity, will unveil updated strategies and techniques for promoting children’s well-being. In today’s economic landscape, my focus is on maximizing cost-efficiency without compromising the effectiveness of my daily immune-boosting routines.
Throughout this article, I’ll delve into the advantages of homemade versus store-bought supplements and powders, providing insights into their usage and cost-effectiveness. By steering clear of pre-made tinctures and opting for DIY or powdered alternatives, I’ve not only slashed expenses but also ensured that the nutrients are readily absorbed by my children’s bodies.
Making Informed Choices
While some items like dishwashing detergent and cleaning solutions are more cost-effective and eco-friendly to make at home, others such as certain supplements may be more economical to purchase. I’ll guide you through my decision-making process, explaining why I choose to buy or make specific items based on their cost, effectiveness, and environmental impact. Join me in discovering practical ways to support your family’s health affordably and sustainably.
Buy vs. Make: Immune-Boosting Essentials
Fulvic Humic Acid – Buy
Fulvic humic acid is a powerful mineral complex that enhances overall health, aids nutrient absorption, and strengthens immunity. It’s a staple in our family’s wellness regimen, purchased ready-made for convenience.
Probiotic/Prebiotic/Super Greens – Buy
Probiotics, prebiotics, and super greens are vital for gut health, crucial for supporting the immune system. I opt for a high-quality blend that delivers these essential benefits. (Read my blog on the probiotic I use and why).
Elderberry Syrup – Make
Elderberry syrup is an excellent natural remedy for boosting immunity, particularly during cold and flu season. Making it at home is simple and cost-effective. (Read my blog on Elderberry Syrup and its benefits).
Cod Liver Oil – Buy
Cod liver oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, and D, supports immune function, brain health, and overall well-being. (Read my blog on Cod Liver Oil and its benefits).
Nutrient-Dense Powder (Ka’Chava) – Buy
Ka’Chava offers a comprehensive blend of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids in one convenient superfood meal: Vitamins: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, Folic Acid, Biotin, C, D, E, K, Choline Minerals: Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Chromium, Selenium, Sulfur, Iodine, Fluorine, Molybdenum, Silicon, Cobalt, Tin, Nickel, Vanadium, Phosphorus, Chlorine Amino Acids: Arginine, Histidine, Leucine, Isoleucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, Valine Fatty Acids: Omega-3 (Linolenic Acid), Omega-6 (Linoleic Acid)
Vitamin D3 with K2 – Buy (Optional)
Used selectively in winter when other natural sources are insufficient, Vitamin D3 with K2 supports bone health and the immune system, aiding calcium absorption. This is a great source of vitamins for immunity boosting during those cold winter months!
Juice Plus – Buy
For busy days, Juice Plus provides an easy way to ensure my children receive essential nutrients from fruits and vegetables. It’s my go-to solution for their daily intake of vitamins and minerals.
Cost Savings and Enhanced Nutrient Absorption
By making some of these immune-boosting remedies at home and carefully choosing the supplements we buy, I’ve cut down a lot on our spending for health products. Homemade remedies are also better absorbed by our bodies, so we get more out of them.
For example, the elderberry syrup I make at home costs much less than store-bought versions and has no artificial additives. Making my own nutrient-packed smoothies with Ka’Chava is also cheaper and healthier than buying many different supplements.
Before, I used to spend over $80 a month per child on immune-boosting supplements. Now, I’ve reduced that to less than $65 a month per child. This has been a big win for me—I’ve stopped buying multiple supplements because I found better options that give us more nutrients.
Bioavailability refers to how well our bodies can absorb and use nutrients from food and supplements. In future posts, I’ll share how I make everything last longer to save even more money.
